Principal, Altamirano PLLC
Jorge Altamirano has spent his entire career on the investor‘’s side of the table, fighting for clients in FINRA arbitration and recovering millions of dollars in investment losses. Based in New York City, he is the managing partner of Altamirano PLLC, a boutique law firm built to hold Wall Street accountable, and an experienced securities law attorney.
Altamirano’s record spans more than 1,500 cases, with claims exceeding $200 million. He has recovered millions for investors nationwide, focusing exclusively on investor-side claims. His work covers investment fraud, broker misconduct, unsuitable and complex products, and supervisory failures, helping clients recover losses through FINRA arbitration.
He began representing investors during the Puerto Rico municipal bond crisis of 2013–2014, filing cases against UBS Financial Services, UBS Puerto Rico, and others that left retirees, families, and later credit unions with devastating losses.
In 2021, Altamirano was at the center of the meme-stock fight, taking on Robinhood for its position-closing-only trading restrictions during the GameStop short squeeze. This was a significant moment for investors and the legal field. In January 2022, he secured the first and only arbitration award in the nation against Robinhood over those restrictions, a case covered by MarketWatch, Reuters, and The New York Times.
By 2022, his focus expanded to the collapse of GWG Holdings’ L Bonds. He was among the first lawyers to investigate and file cases against independent broker-dealers that sold the products, and he continues to represent bondholders nationwide, addressing the challenges these products pose for investors.
Across each of these battles, Altamirano has built a reputation for sharp strategy, relentless advocacy, and an ability to distill complex disputes to their core: a broker’s duty to the investor, and what went wrong. He has extensive experience handling cases involving breach of fiduciary duty, failure to supervise, and misconduct by financial advisors. He is committed to protecting investor accounts and representing both individual and institutional investors.
He is a member of PIABA, the national bar association for investor rights. His cases have been covered in major outlets including The New York Times, MarketWatch, Business Insider, and Reuters.
Altamirano lives in Manhattan with his wife and daughter.
